Nana Abekah
Senior Software Engineer · Technical Lead · Cofounder
Hands-on engineering leader and startup cofounder who turns complex problems into products people use. Led AI systems that lower operating costs, make customer-service workflows faster and more reliable, and help agents resolve more inquiries independently. Owns the work from architecture and implementation through team leadership, evaluation, and rollout.
EXPERIENCE
Ada Support Inc.
May 2021—PresentSenior Software Engineer · March 2025—Present
- Lower AI costs, more resolved inquiries. Architected and led a rewrite of Ada’s AI decision-making engine that lowered inference costs and improved automated resolution in evaluation. Built the initial implementation, then led the engineering team through delivery. Currently rolling out in production.
- Faster, more predictable business workflows. Rebuilt how AI agents carry out multi-step customer-service processes, moving fixed steps into code to avoid unnecessary model calls. Led architecture and hands-on development, then a cross-functional team through launch, including the customer editor and production monitoring.
- Reusable workflows instead of duplicated logic. Built and owned a feature that lets businesses define common steps once and reuse them across customer-service processes. Took it end to end from hackathon prototype to production launch.
- Fewer unnecessary handoffs to people. Designed and shipped a change to when the AI agent escalates a conversation, improving independent resolution and reducing handoffs in controlled evaluation. The results informed a new customer-configurable setting.
- Better answers from less context. Built a system that turns long help-center articles into reusable, source-grounded answers, avoiding the need to process full articles for simple, repeated questions. Improved answer quality in evaluation through search and linked-source retrieval. Currently rolling out in production.
- Shorter waits and more resilient AI services. Removed a concurrency bottleneck that forced model requests to run one at a time, improving response times in an evaluation service. Added AI-provider failover to keep services operating through provider disruptions and resolved complex production customer issues.
- Safer content editing and growing backend capacity. Built safeguards against conflicting simultaneous edits to protect data integrity, improved backend handling of large datasets, and contributed to security incident response.

Kabby
November 2023—May 2025Cofounder & Lead Engineer · St. John’s, Newfoundland
- Launched a rideshare product used by 3,000+ people. Co-founded Kabby and owned the mobile apps and backend from architecture through release on the App Store and Google Play.
- Built the systems that connected riders and drivers, processed payments, and supported real-time ride updates, using React Native, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis, GCP, and Stripe.
- Improved ride matching and driver allocation to help fulfill ride requests more efficiently.
BEAP Lab
January 2019—April 2021Software Engineer · St. John’s, Newfoundland
- Enabled researchers to collect participant health data across Apple Watch, Fitbit, and Garmin through a React Native app.
- Protected sensitive participant data through encrypted APIs and backend systems with responsible key management.
- Gave researchers a web portal to analyze collected and processed data, connecting participant data collection with research workflows.
City OS
November 2018—January 2021Cofounder & Lead Engineer · St. John’s, Newfoundland
- Co-founded and built a platform to streamline communication between municipalities and their constituents.
- Owned the web application, APIs, and database design using Angular, Node.js, GraphQL, and MongoDB.
Beacon Intelligence
February—June 2019Frontend Engineer · St. John’s, Newfoundland
